English
English has been renewed and invigorated at Corowa High School with the new syllabus in NSW firmly in place. English remains the critical subject for providing each student with opportunities to develop the communication skills essential to allow choice in life as they move into adulthood.
Success in English translates to success in other subjects.
A comprehensive program has been developed that includes stimulating units which focus on:
Responding and Composing
- Film study
- Drama
- Close study of text
- Poetry
- Media
- Speaking and Listening
- Compulsory core of language form and features, narrative and literacy.
Students will be nurtured to develop; and at times will be taken out of their comfort zone with challenges designed to prepare them for lifelong learning.
All Year 7 and 9 students in NSW participate in the NAPLAN tests (National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy). These tests measure literacy and numercy standards against the national benchmarks. They also provide parents and schools with information on each child’s skills in literacy and numeracy.
Preliminary and HSC Courses
All available courses of study for Years 11 and 12 are offered.
Student Focus
Essential skills, knowledge, values and attitudes are clearly identified in the Senior English syllabus.
The diverse needs of all senior students are taken into account and catered for.
