Exploring Early Childhood
Exploring Early Childhood is a Content Endorsed Course offered to Years 11 and 12. Both 120 hour or 240 hour courses are available and are studied in either or both years.
The purposes of the course are:
To encourage students to complete secondary education.
To provide a flexible structure so students can prepare for:
- further education and training
- employment
- provide a formal assessment and certification of student’s achievements.
The course is comprised of compulsory core studies and optional topics.
Core Studies:
- Pregnancy and Childbirth
- Child Growth and Development
- Promoting Positive Behaviour
Optional topics can each occupy 15-30 hours of study:
- Learning Experiences for Young Children
- Play and the Developing Child
- Starting School
- Gender and Young Children
- Children and Change
- Children of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities
- Historical and Cultural Contexts of Childhood
- Other topics
