Music

Corowa High School’s Music program offers a range of musical experiences for students to establish and develop their enjoyment in Music. The Music Department caters for rock, orchestral and band instrumentalists, conducting regular group rehearsals.

The annual school production, “Variety Night”, is a showcase of the year’s work, giving all Music students the forum to perform in a polished concert. Students also have the opportunity to experience the technical aspect of stage production by coordinating the sound and lighting.

Years 7 and 8 (mandatory)

This course provides a foundation in music. Students study a broad range of periods, styles and genres incorporating the learning experiences of performance, composition and listening.

The major instruments introduced in the junior years are:

  • Guitar
  • Keyboard
  • Voice

Years 9 and 10

The elective course builds on the skills and knowledge gained from Years 7 and 8. Students study in more depth, musical styles such as:

  • Rock
  • Jazz
  • Australian Music
  • Music of a Culture

Preliminary and HSC - 2 unit

Students refine their skills through:

  • Performance
  • Composition
  • Aural
  • Musicology

Study in the senior years enables students to emerge as capable ensemble members and soloists, performing in a variety of musical styles.
