Carpe Diem - Seize the Day

Visual Arts

The Corowa High School Visual Arts Faculty is dynamic. It allows students to develop, enhance and display their creative talents. Students are encouraged to express their skills in a wide range of media and are able to exhibit these skills not only at school but in the wider community.

Years 7 and 8 (mandatory)

Throughout the two year course, students work in a wide range of disciplines such as painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture and graphics. They have access to computers, scanners and digital cameras to experiment in multimedia formats.

Topics include:

  • Masks
  • Cartooning
  • Still Life
  • Portraiture

Year 9 (elective)

As an elective course, the Visual Arts Faculty offers courses in:

  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • Printmaking
  • Graphics
  • Ceramics
  • Sculpture

These courses are a good foundation for senior years, as students gain a more in-depth understanding about processes, art theory and materials.

Year 10 (elective)

This course expands and develops the skills needed for senior study. Students further explore techniques, materials and art history, and can now start to choose the creative forms they feel comfortable with.

Preliminary HSC (Year 11) - 2 unit

The Preliminary Course is a building block for the HSC, with students specialising in one of two media and refining the skills needed to make a Body of Work in the HSC year.

HSC - 2 unit

This is an intensive year of study in which students undertake five case studies on issues in the Visual Arts, with the focus on the production of a Body of Work based on the ideas and issues of the students
