Leadership In Middle School (LIMS)

This innovative concept was introduced in Corowa High School at the beginning of 2004, to provide more ongoing opportunities for all students to work towards developing their leadership skills.

All students, particularly the new Year 7 students from all the different feeder schools, have the same chance for participation in a new student-led model of leadership.

In LIMS, students volunteer to complete negotiated tasks over three terms, spanning the period from Year 7 to Year 9. Each student is allocated a teacher facilitator and a peer support leader, or member of the Student Representative Council (SRC), who assist the student in determining their tasks.

Students choose:

  • five simple tasks
  • one complex tasks
  • one ongoing skill or task
  • one school service or extra-curricular task
  • one public speaking task

By completing their chosen tasks, students show commitment, initiative and leadership. LIMS graduates are eligible to nominate for the SRC in Years 9-11.

The LIMS model, developed elsewhere, has been modified to suit Corowa High School and has been enthusiastically received by students, parents and staff.

House Sport Captains

House captains and vice captains lead by example in areas of attitude, behaviour and participation, both academically and sporting. They exhibit leadership qualities and willingness to become involved in school activities.

They help organise Sports carnivals and work co-operatively with House Patrons and other student leaders.
